Role: Digital Forensics Unit Project Lead

Location: Home based, South Yorkshire

Salary: Band G - £40,719 - £44,787

Hours: 37 Hours per Week

Contract Type: Temporary – 18 Months

 

Role Purpose:

Progress the approved DFU collaboration approach in the North East Region with a view to ensuring all Forces achieve and maintain ISO accreditation, harmonise equipment and working practices and minimise adverse impacts. This will involve running a small team, reporting into agreed NETIC structures and managing relationships across all 7 Forces and with other stakeholders and partners including national projects and external suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake an analysis of DF provision in the region with a view to improving understanding of cost, performance, quality and variances between units.
  • Working with stakeholders and the NETIC team produce a costed model for DF based on the agreed vision of a single approach for the region, and developing the proposal of hubs and spokes.
  • Plan the approach to delivering the agreed vision of a single approach to all DF in the region over a 5-7 year timetable, including the creation of a comprehensive roadmap for forces and practitioners to understand the approach.
  • Develop the approach to a hubs and spoke model across the region, including legal and practical arrangements and consultation with forces;
  • Harmonise accreditation approaches, equipment and working practices across the region
  • propose and implement automation software
  • Aggregate procurement of any new equipment.
  • To work with existing force teams to implement and provide on-going oversight of Forensic standard ISO 17025 and 17020 within the Region (Quality Management)
  • Ensure continuing compliance within digital framework as prescribed by the Forensics Regulator and provide Transforming Forensics National team with a framework for dissemination to all Regions
  • Advise on digital investigation processes by taking responsibility for key process decisions surrounding the acceptance and analysis of digital exhibits with reference to current legislation, Codes of Practice and organisational objectives.
  • Ensure all forces harmonise process and equipment and any resulting procurement
  • Provide technical supervision of digital forensics within the confines of ISO 17025 and 17020 (as it pertains to DFU) for the Region seeking to attain full ISO accreditation across all 7 Forces
  • Manage the implementation of automated solutions and continue to work in partnership with IT and the suppliers to develop a technical solution to the storage and retrieval of extracted data
  • Report into agreed NETIC governance structures using traditional project management tools

Skills and experience:

  • Degree level in Computer Forensics or similar field, or equivalent experience.
  • Quality Management experience as it relates to ISO is preferred
  • Competent in the use of IT systems including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proven ability to lead a team, working under pressure and successfully meet organisational objectives
  • Technically proficient background in computing or digital forensics including (but not limited) to areas such as PC architecture (hardware/networking) and operating systems (Windows, OSX and Linux)
  • An understanding of the impact of legislation such as PACE, RIPA, EHCR and DPA on conducting digital forensics

Eligibility:
