Details of Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a digital forensic analyst post within South Yorkshire Police’s Digital Forensic Unit. This role is suitable for graduates with little/no experience and experienced examiners alike due to the roles being part of a career development programme. Any previous experience will be assessed to determine where on the programme individuals are placed.

The Digital Forensics Unit are involved in investigating all types of crime, supporting Force wide Districts and departments. Under the guidance of a Senior Digital Forensic Analyst, you will use forensic techniques and tools to identify and acquire evidence and intelligence held on digital devices. You will analyze data using appropriate forensic techniques and produce streamlined forensic reports for use in court. Additionally, you will provide advice and technical support to operational officers during proactive operations, investigations and warrants.

You will be expected to work within a forensic environment that adheres to ISO 17025 standards, working to technical procedures and a quality management system. You will work closely with the other members of the department and assist officers in the creation of Digital Media Investigation strategies.

Role Purpose:

To provide support to Police Investigations by securing and retrieving data from digital devices in accordance with national guidelines, utilising forensic software and techniques.

Skills and experience:

  • QCF Level 6 (degree) relevant qualification or equivalent industry training
  • Understanding of the processes, procedures and best practice guidance underpinning the examination of digital devices
  • An awareness of different digital device operating systems
  • Experience of dismantling/assembling computers and digital devices, maintaining accurate contemporaneous notes.
  • An awareness of Forensic hardware and software
  • Be familiar with relevant digital forensic guidelines and legislation, including the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Principles of Human Rights, Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act
  • Ability to adapt to the use of new technology systems and software
  • Experience of report writing

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years has been identified for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
