South Yorkshire Police – Tactical Support Group (TSG) Constable

Be the future of South Yorkshire Police.

Our Tactical Support Group (TSG) is looking for pro-active officers who have a good working knowledge of public order legislation, search tactics, the Force tasking process, and the national intelligence model.

The key areas of work include, providing specialist capability and advice for search, including crime scenes, land searches and missing from home enquiries. This could include searches in confined spaces and at height. TSG officers provide an enhanced public order capability for the force, which can include policing protest and events.  TSG officers also provide advanced method of entry techniques. Officers assist local policing by providing targeted pro-active patrols in crime hotspot areas to prevent violent offences and disrupt criminal activity.

To be eligible to apply you must:

  • hold a current Licensed Search Officer (LSO) qualification or
  • attend and pass the course once you have joined SYP
  • be trained to PSU level 2
  • achieve and maintain level 7.4 on the force fitness test

All new TSG constables will be expected to complete further training in one or more of the following areas – Advanced driver, Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO), Public Order Public Safety Adviser (POPSA), Police Search Adviser (POLSA), and CBRN responder and search.

South Yorkshire Police offer relocation and removal expenses up to a maximum of £8000 to transferring officers currently living outside of the force area and at least 50 miles from their permanent place of work.

To be eligible to transfer you must:

  • Be a current serving police officer in a Home Office force (Officers from British Transport Police, Police Service Northern Ireland, Police of Scotland & Ministry of Defence are assessed on a case by case basis).
  • Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
  • Have resided in the UK for three years immediately prior to submitting your application.
  • Must have successfully completed your probationary period with your Force prior to submitting your application.

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be invited to a competency based interview, based on the Competency & Values Framework for Policing (CVF). 

Successful applicants will be guided through the transferee process and will be required to undergo the following checks:

  • Vetting
  • Medical Assessment & Fitness Test
  • Drugs & Bio-Metrics
  • References
  • Sickness Criteria
  • Misconduct
  • Tattoos
