We have an exciting opportunity as a Covert & Communications Data Manager working directly

for the Data Office Records Manager. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and co-ordinating all data obtained via sensitive covert policing tactics and all Communications Data utilising Part II of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and the Investigatory Powers Act 2016.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To identify, understand and manage data risk obtained via all sensitive covert policing capabilities and CD applications
  • Support data risk management across the organisation
  • Directly support and provide specialist advice and guidance to CAB Manager, Communications Data Investigations Manager, and other Information Asset Owners in their duties by managing assurance activities to demonstrate accountability for their data assets.
  • Develop appropriate tools, dashboards, health-checks, documentation, and packages to support Information Asset Owners and the Data Boards (strategic and tactical).
  • Communicate with and support other managers within the Data Office to clearly define information risk, risk score and allocate a lead subject matter expert, working with them closely to assist the IAO in mitigating actions, ensuring ISO’s are fully supported in their role.
  • Responsible for the forces data obtained via covert authorities, including high grade sensitive data, on behalf of the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO). Ensuring compliance is met with relevant legislation, policy, procedures, and best practice.
  • Monitor Missing Persons Workflow to establish and maintain data compliance in accordance with the Investigatory Powers Act 2018 Codes of Practice.
  • Maintain the physical covert data store to establish and maintain data compliance in accordance with the Investigatory Powers Act 2018 Codes of Practice.
  • Provide governance and compliance updates to the Force OPSY, as and when required.

Skills and experience:

  • In depth working knowledge of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, Investigatory Powers Act 2016, Management of Police Information Act, Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996, Human Rights Legislation and the Data Protection Act.
  • Specialist relevant Risk Management/Information Governance qualification, or equivalent experience in a similar organisation working in a relevant role, or proven experience of decision making in a high-pressure environment, with accountability for decisions made.
  • Proven experience of risk management methodology application.
  • Successful project delivery experience.
  • Experience of the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.
