We have an exciting opportunity for a OSU Caseworker to join the Professional Standards Department on a temporary basis for 9 months. This is a key function in the complaints handling process in order to maintain the trust and confidence of the public in South Yorkshire Police.

The Operational Support Unit deal with the initial assessment of public complaints for referral to the Appropriate Authority for a recording decision.

As a Caseworker you will be expected to manage police officer or staff disciplinary meetings, involving the completion of relevant papers in line with regulations and policy.

As part of the role, you will be expected to make early meaningful contact with complainants in order to fully understand the nature of their complaint and try and ascertain their expectations in respect of a resolution.  As such, good communication skills are required, both oral and written.

You will also be expected to liaise with various partners, including Legal Services, Legally Qualified Chairs, the OPCC, the IOPC, the Police Federation, Welfare Support Officers, Barristers, Media and Senior Leadership Group (SLG) Staff officer as part of your role.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of the use of Microsoft applications is essential – word/excel
  • Be able to review and collate relevant evidence from documentary, audio and video evidence
  • Be able to update and interrogate SYP computer-based data systems
  • Experience in dealing with dissatisfied members of the public

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
