Role Purpose:

 To undertake role of Statutory DPO. Reporting to Chief Data Officer in relation to business strategy and SIRO to advise them in their executive accountability role.

 Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Act as the Force Data Protection Officer, a role identified in key legislation, regarding all matters associated with data protection. Providing professional and technical advice and guidance to the organisation on statutory obligations and compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UKGDPR.
  • You will provide a data protection framework in which to demonstrate accountability and maintain public trust.
  • The post holder will have an extensive knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR and the College of Policing APP for Information Management. Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act will also be required.
  • You will have a good understanding of the Policing Sector and the requirements under UK GDPR and Law Enforcement processing.

    Skills and experience:

    • Possess a level 7 data protection qualification and five years equivalent experience dealing with data protection matters. You will undertake Data Protection Officer Practitioner training and commit to achieving a level 7 qualification if this isn’t already held.
    • Management experience and able to demonstrate ability to develop effective ways of working, performance, KPIs and providing and excellent customer service.
    • Experience of risk management and working to a risk management framework.
    • Experience of managing culture change.
    • Understanding of Data Protection in a policing context

    Eligibility:

    Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
