Role Purpose:

This role is responsible for; providing advice and guidance relating to key OD themes; managing key OD projects; and identifying and developing OD solutions that are led and overseen by the OD and Culture Lead. Acting as an internal consultant/ trusted advisor, and working closely with other People and Organisational Development (POD) advisors and business partners, the role will support the delivery of key OD strategies involving all aspects of OD including engagement, diversity and inclusion, performance and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide trusted, evidence-based OD advice and guidance to key stakeholders to support them in their planning and decision making.
  • Use an evidence-based approach to identify OD needs and specify outcomes to inform the design and development of solutions.
  • Through effective partnership and collaboration across the business, support the development of local delivery plans for key OD areas - leadership, diversity and inclusion and performance and engagement.
  • Directly manage delivery of OD solutions via the OD practitioner and/or co-ordinator.
  • Commission delivery of OD solutions from wider ODL teams and identify where external support may be required.
  • Identify trends, key risks and opportunities relating to performance and culture issues.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to colleagues in support of their CPD, sharing your own specialist knowledge.
  • Research, develop, deliver, evaluate and continuously improve high quality OD solutions that meet organisational needs and objectives and that will provide sustainable results.
  • Set performance objectives, holding staff accountable for delivering these and taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the delivery of ODL priorities.
  • Be a visible role model, consistently demonstrate professional principles and personal integrity.


Skills and experience:

  • Occupational Psychologist or Member of CIPD as a fellow or chartered member, or equivalent level of expertise gained through experience.
  • OD experience having successfully delivered solutions in areas such as leadership, diversity and inclusion, culture and engagement.
  • Experience in an advisory role.
  • Understands and can apply theory and practice that underpins effective OD solutions.
  • Able to build trust with stakeholders through the credibility of professional knowledge and experience and effective engagement and communication that enables negotiation, collaboration, professional challenge, problem solving and delivery.
  • Able to think critically, to assess risk and analyse available data, applying this to decision-making, prioritisation and actions.
  • Able to identify opportunities and threats, and act to implement change quickly by delivering evidence-based, innovative OD solutions.
  • Able to use own initiative to research and plan OD activity, including the associated financial, people and materials resourcing requirements.
  • Shows commercial awareness/ business acumen in ensuring OD solutions are delivered within the available budget/ resources.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
