Working directly to the Force Authorising Officer, the successful candidate will be managing a small team within the Covert Authorities Bureau (CAB).  The team manages all aspects of applications under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) and the new Investigatory Powers Act (IPA).  

They will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with the management of all aspects of Covert Human Intelligence Sources, registration, authorisation, reviews, payments and cancellations.  As well as ensuring all aspects of directed surveillance, and intrusive surveillance applications are fully compliant with RIPA and IPA in accordance with the Investigatory Powers Commissioner’s Office (IPCO) guidance. 

The successful applicant should have relevant practical experience of working within the field of the covert policing investigation arena.  An in-depth working knowledge of the relevant legislation is essential, as they will be need to be confident in briefing senior officers and providing tactical advice in respect of compliance.  Maintaining confidentiality is essential to the role, as it the flexibility to the needs of the service including the expectation of participating in an on call rota.
