Role Purpose:

Applications are invited for the role of Enquiry Desk Assistant.  We have two part time posts available.  You will be working a 13-week shift pattern, the shifts will span between 8.00am and 8.00pm over 7 days covering 3 sites.                                      

You will provide a high standard of customer service when dealing with members of the public either face to face at the counter or indirectly over the telephone.  You will also deal efficiently and courteously, remaining professional at all times even when faced with difficult, sensitive and challenging situations and to show resilience when under pressure and confidence when working alone.

The successful applicant will complete and process the necessary documentation relating to enquiries either by inputting onto the computer system or detailing information on a specific form, complying with legislation and policy at all times.  You must communicate effectively and work as part of a large team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Receiving and dealing with enquiries from members of the public.
  • Accept and record items of property and cash handed in by members of the public.
  • Maintain enquiry desk records.
  • Responsibility for security of access through the public reception area.
  • Receiving persons reporting on bail.
  • Receiving monies paid in at the Police Station.
  • Reporting persons for minor offences and completed documentation.
  • Taking initial reports of crimes and road traffic accidents
  • Operation of public address system
  • Operating a Loop system
  • Carry out clerical and administrative duties
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post


Skills and experience required includes the following:

  • Experience of dealing with face to face enquiries from members of the public.
  • Experience of using computer packages including MS Word, Excel
  • Able to work shifts and weekends
  • Ability to travel and work at different sites

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.

You must be prepared to work shifts and bank holidays.

When all pre-employment checks are complete, successful applicants will be required to work full time, Monday to Friday for a four-week period before starting the shift pattern, in order for the necessary training to be delivered.
