An opportunity has arisen for 2 highly motivated, innovative individuals to work in a demanding, complex and rapidly changing Operational Police Training Section of Organisation Development & Learning. We have a permanent vacancy and a temporary vacancy for 12 months available.  Please note our permanent vacancies are under review. The roles are based at Robert Dyson House Training Centre, working Monday to Friday.

You will have a number of responsibilities that will include the delivery of the Police Education and Qualification Framework programmes for Student Officers.  These roles will also involve providing support for Student Officers whilst in their Initial Training Phase.

You will be working closely with multiple SYP Training teams, including the CAPE teams and Sheffield Hallam University to deliver the curriculum for all Police Constable Entry Routes.

This is an exciting time to be part of the ODL team. You will be able to make a positive difference to the changes needed for the development of our new Officers. You will be pivotal in setting and upholding our high standards to Officers, helping them to be operationally ready for their working life at District.

You will also be involved in the Development, Creation, Implementation, and delivery of various other courses. These include PCSO Apprenticeship Programmes, Neighbourhood Police Training, Transferee Courses, Coaching Professional Apprentices & Specials training.   You will work with other delivery teams to ensure the students receive the best possible learning journey

Skills and experience:

  • The successful applicant will have strong communication skills with the ability to set out logical rationale, adapting your language to meet the needs of different people/audiences.  You will be expected to coach and mentor colleagues, staff and students to enable appropriate career and professional development.
  • A minimum training qualification of a Certificate of Education Level 4 or be prepared to work towards the Training Essentials Programme.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the delivery of broad spectrum of policing operational skills including legislation, investigation PIP Level 1 and areas covered by the national police curriculum for initial training.
  • Maintain competence in own area of training subject matter expertise, including knowledge and understanding of legislation, College of Policing Guidance, and best practice.
  • Participate in networking opportunities, reflecting on practice and sharing learning with peers in order to inform and improve policy, processes and practice.
  • Champion innovation and improvement by maintaining and enhancing knowledge and understanding of new approaches to training identified through evidence based research and environmental scanning. Testing and integrating new approaches.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
