Hours: 37 hours per week - Monday to Friday

Contract Type: Temporary – 2 years

 

Role Purpose:

As an Engineer (Server) you will report to the IS Team Leader (Server) and work alongside colleagues in the server team.  Your duties will include fixing infrastructure related issues ranging from active directory management to storage systems administration. As well as day-to-day maintenance, you will be expected to lead large installation projects, allowing them to gain valuable skills in areas such as Server Virtualisation, Application Virtualisation, Microsoft system management, and Unix based systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Engineer (Server) in the provision of support for the server estate across multiple geographic locations through the use of appropriate support and maintenance, monitoring all related systems and applications for the provision of pro-active support, performance and the provision of KPI’s with respect to availability.
  • Liaise with user departments with regards to future equipment and formulate proposals to meet their needs, monitor and control requests for new work ensuring that appropriate quality and standards are maintained, and that work is completed in a timely fashion.
  • Contribute to the decision-making process and make recommendations to the IS management team.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of either Microsoft Active Directory, UNIX based systems, or storage environments.
  • Exposure to Virtualisation technologies.
  • Experience of customer support and engagement.
  • Exposure to different storage environments and technologies.

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
