We have a fantastic opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join our Occupational Health and Wellbeing Teams.  We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, passionate about physical psychological health and wants to make a real difference to the Police service in the South Yorkshire community.

This role attracts a market rate supplement of up to £40,005 (which is reviewed on an annual basis).

As an Occupational Therapist you will provide practical support for individuals or groups of

individuals to overcome barriers to work and be responsible for:

  • Conducting ergonomic assessments as required by the force.
  • Conducting assessments to help understand mental health barriers that may be affecting an individual in a specific role or environment.
  • Providing individual support to people who are struggling to maintain their mental health at work including individuals with PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD and eating disorders to aid recovery.
  • Supporting individuals using techniques such as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to build resilience in order to increase their ability to respond to challenging situations within Force.
  • Conducting sensory assessments where appropriate to do so and develop strategies to help reduce anxiety and increase productivity in the workplace.
  • Providing vocational rehabilitation support to individuals who are returning to work after a period of absence providing a solution focused approach to supporting mental and physical health needs.
  • Conducting environmental assessments to understand barriers that may affecting groups of individuals working in specific conditions or workplaces.
  • Providing detailed reports to management, providing clear advice, pathways, timescales and equipment (where appropriate).
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and effectively manage each referral to ensure each client receives the expertise required for their particular circumstances.
  • Providing individual advice on improving health and wellbeing, signposting to relevant external agencies/charities to help individuals access support and make lifestyle changes.

Skills and experience:

  • Be registered with the Health & Care Profession Council (HCPC)
  • Be professional qualified with a degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Have experience of utilising Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Be sensory assessment trained
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be able to conduct assessments
  • Be able to deliver training
  • Have the ability to manage a challenging workload

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
