We are currently looking for Technical Leads (Data Services) to work as part of a team to analyse, plan and manage the implementation of information technology aspects across South Yorkshire and Humberside Police.

As a Technical Lead (Database), working within the Data Services Team, you will be responsible for the support and maintenance of all Force databases and Data Warehouse and reporting solutions.   You will assist the team in the administration of the ORACLE and SQL Server Database estate, ensuring back up, DR and Business Continuity procedures are followed. As part of your duties, you will ensure that you keep testing up to date across multiple geographic locations and liaise with specialist areas with regard to future database requirements and equipment.

As part of this role, there will be a requirement to provide on-call support on a rota basis to meet Force demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that testing is kept up to date across multiple geographic locations, monitoring all related systems and applications for the provision of proactive support, performance and the provision of KPI’s with respect to availability.
  • Liaise with specialist areas, as directed by the IS Team/Specialism Leader (Database), with regard to future database requirements and equipment, formulate proposals to meet their needs, monitor and control requests for new work ensuring that appropriate quality and standards are maintained and work is completed in a timely fashion.
  • Be expected to contribute in the decision-making process and make recommendations to the IS Management Team.

Skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of enterprise ORACLE and SQL Server database management best practices.
  • Oracle RAC Experience
  • SQL, PLSQL or TSQL knowledge and experience
  • Experience of Agile delivery methodology for successful project implementations
  • Knowledge and understanding of database modelling, migration, reporting and data warehouse techniques
  • Computing degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience of application services and implementations

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years / 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
