Role: Intelligence Researchers – July 2021

Department: Specialist Crime Services

Salary: £22,599 - £25,278

Hours: 37 per week

Contract Type: Temporary until March 2022 

Role Purpose: 

Undertake research to identify threat, harm and risk issues to the standards as defined within the National Intelligence Model and in accordance with Force priorities.

Undertake research using a wide variety of sources to assess and evaluate information and inform the creation of intelligence products to support decision making at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level. 

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Undertake research methodologies to produce intelligence and/or inform analytical products, including collecting, collating and evaluating information from a wide variety of sources at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level.
  • Provide research support to the Analytical function and wider Intelligence unit on an ongoing basis to help ensure emerging issues, trends and patterns are identified and current issues are monitored.
  • Obtain information from a wide variety of sources, exploiting all appropriate systems and products, including relevant databases and research methodologies to conduct research at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level.
  • Prepare and deliver research summaries and findings, such as presentations and reports, to clearly and accurately inform decision-making and/or facilitate analysis.

Skills and experience required includes: 

  • College of Policing Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) qualification or willingness to complete.
  • Experience of research and assimilating large volumes of data to prepare and produce research-based reports.
  • Experience of working with sensitive information, and dealing with and maintaining confidentiality.

Eligibility: 

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
