We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Building Engineer that has practical technical experience in building maintenance, to join our friendly facilities management team.

As an Assistant Building Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of general building maintenance across South Yorkshire. You will assist the buildings engineers for Facilities Management at all SYP sites and have direct contact with customers and contractors throughout the area.

If you hold or are willing to study for the relevant City and Guilds /NVQ qualification, this could be the role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake simple repairs to buildings and contents.
  • Operation, cleaning and general maintenance of solid fuel boilers, flues, stokers and boiler house plant.
  • Routine maintenance of valves etc. to heating and chilling systems.
  • Undertake all duties within the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Receive deliveries of petrol and diesel as per the Petroleum Regulations.

Skills and experience:

  • Practical technical experience in building maintenance
  • Post holder must be prepared to work weekends, public holidays or work outside normal working hours if circumstances require.
  • Hold, or be willing to be study for, relevant City & Guilds/NVQ qualifications or experience
  • Ability to travel within the police area where the post holder is employed, a driving licence would be advantageous

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
