An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional to lead the Service Improvement and Transformation function for the joint IT service between Humberside and South Yorkshire Police. As a key member of the Senior IT Leadership team, you will be responsible not only for the end to end delivery but also the quality of the service to both Forces.

Both Forces are on an upward trajectory and committed to maximising their investment in technology and providing the highest levels of service and efficiency to front line Policing.

You will have a strong background in service improvement and transformation with a thorough understanding of ITIL, ideally gained working in critical environments. You will be keenly focussed on driving forward improvements and developments whilst delivering outstanding customer service and overseeing the transformation of our service. Role Purpose: 

Lead on the development and delivery of service improvement within IT services. To ensure fit for purpose solutions are identified and delivered with the IT team, with clearly defined and agreed outcomes. Support heads of Service to enact change within respective teams, facilitating effective and well-embedded improvement.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Work across the IT function and its service areas to conduct a strategic review of current practices and functions, identify risks and areas for improvement, and engineer new processes where required.
  • Lead on the creation of a continuous improvement environment engaging with all teams to support the delivery of efficient & effective services
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders in embedding an environment and culture which is focused on improving services
  • Challenge the current service delivery structure, processes and practices in order to develop robust plans for service improvement.
  • Identifying areas of poor performance and work in partnership with managerial and training teams to disseminate good practice
  • In Liaison with Heads of service, Identify and resolve operational processes and activity within the IT function which is sub-optimal.
  • Ensure service improvement changes are integrated into work practices and improvements are maintained, thus becoming ‘business as usual’

Skills and experience required includes: 

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification or relevant applied experience).
  • Demonstrate experience of change management at a senior level within IT teams and/or Policing operations
  • Qualified in project Management such as Prince 2 or similar
  • An understanding of how IT systems are integrated into operational Policing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable at presenting complex concepts and data at all levels.
  • Previous experience of managing complex IT Service Recovery within a Policing environment.
  • Previous experience of a technical environment at a senior level.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 3 years / 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
