Hours: 37 hours per week                        

Contract Type: Temporary until March 2025

As a Pensions Assistant you will assist with the administration of the Police Pension Scheme dealing with retirements, transfers, new starters, payroll amendments and other duties as requested or required by the team.  There is also a ‘Project’ element to the role and a requirement to support/ administer record changes.

The pensions team also operate to monthly time sensitive deadlines and undertake projects throughout the year, these cover a range of topics covering the issuing a life certificate to Widows and Overseas pensioners, an annual review of benefits received for the additional Injury Pension Scheme and the provision of statutory Annual Benefit Statements.

In addition, the department are currently managing a work stream to meet the requirements for ‘Remedy’. The Government lost their challenge to put workers into a new revised pension scheme and now all Public Sector Schemes must review a 7-year period to put their members back. The successful candidate will assist in this data collection and reconciliation and will play a key part in implementing Remedy, where it will be necessary to recalculate the events that have occurred for eligible members during this period.

The successful applicant will be required to understand the different pension schemes that are operated by South Yorkshire Police. We have a mixture of Final Salary Defined Benefit and CARE scheme arrangements.

To be considered you must have previous relevant pension experience, in a similar organisation, and have IT skills in relation to systems reporting tools, Word, Excel and emails.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calculations of pension estimate and all benefit types (Starters/Leavers/ Retirement/Death/pay calculations)
  • Calculations of specific age events e.g., Pension Increase at age 55yrs, Modification at SPA.
  • Completion of payroll and payment vouchers/forms
  • Calculations of service entitlements in respect of transfers ‘in’ and ‘out’ of the police pension scheme
  • Preparing of monthly payroll amendments
  • Advise police officers and police pensioners on pension matters
  • Contribute to maintaining the police pension department’s statistics and pension records
  • Contribute to annual tasks, reviews and general support to the Police Pensions Officer and Manager

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
