Role Purpose:

Undertake dip sample audits of Police systems including the Incident and Crime Recording Systems to ensure compliance with National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS), National Standard for Incident Recording (NSIR) and Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Senior Crime and Incident Audit Officer and Deputy Force Crime Registrar (DFCR) to agree audit terms of reference, methodology, plan and work schedule.
  • Conduct audits in accordance with Data Quality Assurance Manual to identify which systems and processes are producing ethical and consistent incident and crime recording.
  • Collate and analyse audit data to identify key findings, good practice and risks to crime data accuracy, write a final report making recommendations for improvement.
  • Notify management of any unethical crime recording practices that undermine the Force’s statutory obligation, professional reputation, service to victims and compliance with the Code of Ethics.
  • Present audit reports and key findings to senior management.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the application of the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS), Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR), National Standard for Incident Recording (NSIR) and the National Incident Category List (NICL) for incidents.
  • Assist in the promotion and improve understanding within the force of the importance of accurate crime recording.
  • Provide training, support and advice for all staff involved in the crime recording process.
  • Act as Designated Decision Maker (DDM) for crime reclassification and cancellation requests.
  • Amend records on the crime recording system in accordance with NCRS and HOCR.
  • Maybe required deputise for the Senior Crime and Incident Audit Officer/DDM.
  • Occasional travel/agile working throughout the South Yorkshire Police Force area.
  • Perform any other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.

Skills and experience:

Knowledge of Criminal Law, Police procedures, Microsoft Office applications including Word, Advanced Excel and PowerPoint, verbal, presentation and written communication skills.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
