Role Purpose:

To conduct Identification Procedures in accordance with the Police & Criminal Evidence ACT 1984 Code D.

Including assisting and providing support to custody staff in taking VIPER image captures, compiling volunteer selection to produce video identification parades, conduct witness ID viewings and recording all procedures for evidential purposes.

Mixture of office based and agile working

Ability to travel within and outside South Yorkshire boundaries appropriate to the role

Essential car user with the appropriate business car insurance and valid driving licence

Ability and willingness to work outside normal office hours when business needs require, consistent of the need for work / life balance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be able to act as a delegated person on behalf of the Force Identification Officer.
  • Deal with enquiries relating to identification issues.
  • Produce basic performance management information.
  • Show comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the VIPER Request System. Assist and Support Detention Officers in the capture of suspect images for VIPER identification parades
  • Conduct and arrange Identification parades following procedures laid down in the Police & Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), Code D.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Police Officers and staff on matters surrounding identification, including outside and agencies
  • Effectively communicate with all relevant parties including outside partner agencies regarding matters of law and procedure.
  • Manage conflict situations professionally and effectively.
  • Attend Courts of Law on a regular basis to deliver evidence as a witness.
  • Deal with all witnesses and victims in a courteous, respectful and sensitive manner both within the suites and at their own address when required.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and stated cases.
  • Operate and fully utilise all computer packages relating to information systems.
  • Prepare accurate evidential paperwork for submission in relation to evidential court proceedings.
  • Prepare a suitable file for each specific identification procedure.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
