South Yorkshire Police currently has an exciting opportunity to join our Force Crime Bureau. You will join our established team and the role is critical to the core function of Crime recording, Quality Assurance and Crime Data Accuracy.

We are looking for someone with the right personal qualities – professionalism, enthusiasm, attention to detail, proactivity, prepared to work under their own initiative as well as taking direction and to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.  You should be also demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in your work.

The role of FCB operator involves weekend working and attracts a shift allowance of 20% to reflect the requirement to work 24-hour shifts. The current rota is four 12 hr shifts on then four days off. The successful applicant will be expected to work the full shift pattern on one of the four teams working the pattern.

As part of the ongoing review of the FCB function, the working location and shift patterns remain under review and may to subject to change in due course, however, any changes will be in line with staff working terms and conditions.

The successful applicant will be supported with an in-depth training package around relevant police systems and legislation. There is a training course scheduled to commence on 6th December 2021, Monday – Friday office hours and will cover a short break over the Christmas bank holiday period. The successful applicant is likely to join the respective team toward the end of January 2022. Please note there will also be a further training course in 2022 for anyone not on the first intake.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, review and input all reports of crime from members of the public, police officers and police staff and other third party organisations
  • Determine whether crimes can be filed within FCB or passed for further research and investigation.
  • Inform and advise victims regarding the filing of crime, progression of investigations and finalisation in line with VCOP.
  • Question, where appropriate, members of the public reporting crime(s) to establish whether any viable lines of enquiry exist which assist in the detection of that crime e.g. forensic.
  • Complete all actions as necessary in line with National VCOP and local Complete Victim Care package, maintaining a victim focused approach at all times

Skills and experience:

  • Excellent customer service skills with a customer centric approach.
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer literate and have proven ability in the use of windows based computer systems, either by qualification or work experience
  • Flexible approach to work to meet the needs of the organisation including working a 24-hour shift system and weekends where applicable.
  • Knowledge of Criminal Law & Police procedures - HOCR, NSRS and NSIR

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 3 years / 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
