Role Purpose:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, design and delivery of all aspects of dog training relative to the contents of the ACPO Manual of Guidance for Police Dog Training.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.

You will also deliver training to Police Dog Handlers providing feedback and assessment where appropriate. To organise and prepare for appropriate courses, as well as maintaining training records (use of Chronicle).

The post holder will prepare and run mandatory training courses for new and existing dog handlers and also develop and train young dogs daily that are housed within the Dog Training School.

Skills and experience:

The successful applicant will pass a JRFT commensurate with the 5.4 police officer fitness test and be proficient in the use of technology to maintain training records and prepare and present training material.

You will also by consistent attendance, be able to facilitate and manage a full time training course.

It is essential that the successful applicant is a full UK driving licence holder.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years has been identified for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.

All tattoos and piercings must be in line with South Yorkshire Police’s Appearance and Standards policy. Tattoos visible on your face, neck, hands or head are not permitted. Any tattoos which could be deemed inappropriate or cause offence will also not be accepted. If you have tattoos, you will need to make a declaration at the time of application.
