Role Purpose:

Responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance and servicing of all electrical and electronic equipment on motor vehicles, motorcycles, plant and auxiliary equipment owned, leased or loaned by SYP Authority. 

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will carry out electrical/electronic servicing/repairs fitted to motor vehicles, motorcycles and plant as indicated in the South Yorkshire Police service policy. The installation of specialised police equipment (police signs, videos etc) and the fabrication of installation equipment for specialist police equipment is also a requirement of the role.

The post holder will also work as part of a team in the design and manufacture of equipment for specialist police uses. 

Skills and experience:

The post holder must possess a City & Guilds/NVQ 3 in Motor Vehicle Electrical / Electronic engineering or an equivalent qualification.

The post holder must have at least 5 years’ experience in carrying out mechanical servicing/repairs to motor vehicles, cycles and plant, following an indentured apprenticeship, ideally in a main dealer outlet.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 or 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.

All tattoos and piercings must be in line with South Yorkshire Police’s Appearance and Standards policy. Tattoos visible on your face, neck, hands or head are not permitted. Any tattoos which could be deemed inappropriate or cause offence will also not be accepted. If you have tattoos, you will need to make a declaration at the time of application.
