Role Purpose:

The successful applicant will be responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance and servicing of all electrical and electronic equipment on motor vehicles, motorcycles, plant and auxiliary equipment owned, leased or loaned by SYP Authority. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out electrical/electronic servicing/repairs fitted to motor vehicles, motorcycles and plant as indicated in the South Yorkshire Police service policy.
  • The installation of specialised police equipment (police signs, videos etc).
  • The fabrication of installation equipment for specialist police equipment.
  • The removal of all police electrical equipment from vehicles for disposal.
  • Work as part of a team in the design and manufacture of equipment for specialist police uses.
  • Attend training courses on electrical/electronic and personal development, both in house and at suppliers/manufacturers bases.
  • Complete all approved Vehicle Fleet Management forms and miscellaneous paperwork in a precise and accurate manner.
  • Work at any of the Police workshops on a short or longer term assignments, as indicated by Vehicle Fleet Management.

Skills and experience:

  • Must Possess a City & Guilds/NVQ 3 in Motor Vehicle Electrical / Electronic engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in carrying out mechanical servicing/repairs to motor vehicles, cycles and plant, following an indentured apprenticeship, ideally in a main dealer outlet.
  • Must possess a full driving licence and pass appropriate SYP Driving Test.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 3 years / 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
