An exciting opportunity has arisen within the South Yorkshire Police Counter Corruption Unit (CCU) to joins us as an Intelligence Researcher. This is a key role in preventing and detecting corruption within law enforcement and you will be joining a high-performing and motivated team. South Yorkshire Police is currently assessed as ‘Outstanding’ by HMICFRS in how it tackles corruption and this new role is a key development in maintaining that forward momentum as data and digital technology continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake research methodologies to produce intelligence and/or inform analytical products, including collecting, collating and evaluating information from a wide variety of sources at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level.
  • Provide research support to the Analytical function and wider Counter Corruption Unit on an ongoing basis to help ensure emerging issues, trends and patterns are identified and current issues are monitored.
  • Obtain information from a wide variety of sources, exploiting all appropriate systems and products, including relevant databases and research methodologies to conduct research at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level. In particular, utilise and develop bespoke data systems and processes within the Counter Corruption Unit (ICT monitoring).
  • Prepare and deliver research summaries and findings, such as presentations and reports, to clearly and accurately inform decision-making and/or facilitate analysis.
  • Maintain awareness and contribute to achieving the aims of the Force Control Strategy and PSD Intelligence Requirement and the local, regional and national Strategic Threat Assessment for Corruption.
  • Receive and initiate communication in connection with requests for information, liaising with external and internal sources in order to facilitate the collection and sharing of data ensuring that all information exchanged is accurate and relevant and in line with relevant legislation and policy.
  • Attend and present at relevant meetings in order to ensure effective dissemination of research.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues and partners, such as liaising with other agencies in order to support information sharing and collaborative working.
  • Support the identification and development of new sources and methods of research to ensure that intelligence products reflect latest techniques and tactics, best practice and information relevant to the role.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a manual of best practice for research processes.
  • Adhere to all legal frameworks, key working principles, policies and guidance relevant to the role.
  • Prepare statements of evidence for court and attend court as a witness if required to assist in the criminal justice process.
  • Perform such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
  • Assessed competence against the professional standards for the function including IPP accreditation and maintenance.
  • Ability to travel within and outside of the Force area.
  • Ability to work agile.

Skills and experience:

It is essential that you have previous experience of research, analysis and assessment of significant amounts of data from multiple sources and working with sensitive and confidential information including:-

  • College of Policing Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) qualification or willingness to complete.
  • Skilled in the use of IT packages, systems and/or data bases to fulfil role requirements.
  • Experience of research and assimilating large volumes of data to prepare and produce research-based reports.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to listen to others and communicate research in order to ensure understanding.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan own work and manage time effectively to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Experience of working with sensitive information, and dealing with and maintaining confidentiality.

Previous experience of working within a covert, intelligence or counter corruption environment would be desirable.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
