Role: Property Disposal Clerk

Salary: £17,799 - £18,531 (pro-rata)

Hours: 16 hours per week

Contract Type: Temporary - 18 months

 

Role Purpose:

To assist the district in fulfilling the property policies and procedures in returning seized property to its rightful owner or for disposing of property that has the approval for destruction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interrogate the property database for items that are due for disposal and print the disposal instructions or utilise a mobile device and barcode printer machine
    • Recover exhibits from the Property stores that have been identified for disposal/destruction and dispose of the property through the correct waste stream
    • Update the property other than found computer database with disposal/destruction details
    • Carry out property audits and identify storage areas which are free to be used by the property clerks
    • Deal with officers/staff and members of the public with property enquiries
    • Facilitate the return of property to its owner by sending letters/emails and process telephone calls
    • Deal with solicitors’ letters regarding property enquiries
    • Adhere to Force Policies on property related seizures/retention periods and disposal procedures
    • Must be able to work from three stores in Sheffield District
    • Must hold a full clean Manual Driving License
    • Wear a uniform and make best use of PPE provided
    • Retrieval of information by using Microsoft Applications

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must have relevant stores experience which can include, auditing, lifting heavy items, retrieval of property/items from its storage location
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public face to face and over the telephone
  • Computer literate with experience of data input and retrieval using Microsoft applications
  • Ability to travel – Hold full clean manual driving license

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years / 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
