Role Purpose:

As an Auditor, working for South Yorkshire Police (SYP), you will carry out dip sample audits in accordance with the Data Quality Assurance Manual of the SYP incident and crime recording systems to ensure compliance with the National Standard for Incident Recording (NSIR), National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS) and Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR).

To be considered for the position you must have knowledge of NSIR, NCRS, HOCR, Criminal Law, Police incident and crime recording systems, data quality, auditing data records and advanced Microsoft excel experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a central point of reference giving advice and guidance on the application of the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS), the Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR) for crime, and the National Standard for Incident Recording (NSIR) and the National Incident Category List (NICL) for incidents.
  • Work with the Deputy Crime & Incident Registrar (DC&IR) to agree the terms of reference, methodology, plan and schedule for audit work.
  • Conduct audits in accordance with crime data audit manual in order to identify which of the force’s systems and processes are producing ethical and consistent crime and incident recording.
  • Notify the DC&IR of any unethical crime recording practices that undermine the Force’s statutory obligation, professional reputation, service to victims of crime and compliance with the Code of Ethics.
  • Promote and improve understanding within the force of the importance of accurate crime recording.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in audit (data and processes) and inspection (Non-Financial), statistical/numerate and data quality assurance environment.
  • Understanding of the National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS) and Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR) for crime recording and National Standard for Incident Recording.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and other relevant IT systems.
  • Have a good knowledge of the criminal law, police crime recording procedures and police command and control and crime recording systems.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Force Area

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years has been identified for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
