Applications are invited from Constables/Detective Constables who possess good investigative skills, to work alongside a team of staff within the OSU Roads Policing Portfolio, supporting fatal and serious collision investigations, in line with the Road Death Investigation manual.

Knowledge and work will also include:

  • Manage a caseload of Serious/Fatal Road traffic collisions as the OIC
  • Plan and conduct Serious Road Collision investigations.
  • Conduct arrest and process procedures and complete prosecution procedures.
  • Prepare and present case files and present evidence in court and other hearings when required.
  • Liaise with CPS, FCIU, CSI, FLC, FLO and Coroners as part of ongoing investigations.
  • Attend Post-mortems as required.
  • Provide specialist advice, support and knowledge on Serious Road Traffic Collisions and legislation and represent SYP at agency or Command meetings as required. 

Working Days:   Variable Shift Pattern – A mixture of day shifts and afternoon shifts providing cover between 0700-2000hrs with some weekend working

Essential Criteria:

  • Accreditation to CoP RP Lead Investigating Officer (LIO) OR PIP2 Investigator
  • Must have a sound knowledge of Traffic Legislation
  • Previous Roads Policing Experience OR Accredited Detective

Eligibility

To be eligible to transfer you must:

  • Be a current serving police officer in a Home Office force (Officers from British Transport Police, Police Service Northern Ireland, Police of Scotland & Ministry of Defence are assessed on a case-by-case basis).
  • Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
  • Have resided in the UK for three years immediately prior to submitting your application.

Must have successfully completed your probationary period with your Force prior to submitting your application.

Further Information

South Yorkshire Police offer relocation and removal expenses up to a maximum of £8000 to transferring officers currently living outside of the force area and at least 50 miles from their permanent place of work.
