Role Purpose:

An opportunity has arisen within South Yorkshire Police’s Digital Forensics Unit for a Senior Digital Forensic Analyst to join the team.

The Digital Forensics Unit are involved in investigating all types of crime, supporting Force wide Districts and departments.

As a Senior Digital Forensic Analyst, you will use forensic techniques and tools to identify and acquire evidence and intelligence held on digital devices. You will analyse data using appropriate forensic techniques and produce streamlined forensic reports for use in court.

Additionally, you will provide advice and technical support to operational officers during proactive operations, investigations and warrants. You will be expected to work within a forensic environment that adheres to ISO 17025 standards, working to technical procedures and quality management procedures. This includes taking on roles or functions, which are essential for the accreditation process and maintenance of accreditation thereafter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will analyse and interpret complex data extracted from digital devices, acting as a Force expert in the Digital Forensics field.
  • You will examine the processed data in accordance with best practice and produce resulting information in a form that is readily understood. This includes the preparation of concise reports relating to information recovered, providing expert interpretation.
  • You will provide supervisory support to the Digital Forensic Analysts, including staff management and mentoring.
  • You will present evidence in Court in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • You will develop and maintain expert, up to date technical knowledge of both general and digital forensic procedures. Keeping abreast of developments within the industry in order to secure the success of future investigations and to develop the unit.
  • You will be involved in and assist with obtaining and maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation.
  • You will work closely with the other members of the department to ensure effective knowledge sharing across the department and assist officers in the creation of Digital Media Investigation strategies.
  • You will be expected to brief senior staff and represent the Force on matters relating to digital forensics.
  • You will provide a quality assurance role in respect of peers and any digital forensic examinations carried out by other Forces or external companies.
