We have an exciting opportunity to join the Learning and Development Team as an Officer Safety Trainer.

As an Officer Safety Trainer, you will educate police officers and staff in Officer Safety and First Aid. This role is a crucial part of the on-boarding process for our new student officers who begin their policing career with Humberside Police.

It will be your job to identify any training needs and define course aims and objectives in accordance with our People Strategy, ensuring our staff are well-developed and fully trained to protect our communities. You will also carry out refresher training for our fully equipped officers.

The role involves designing different types of training aids and workbooks to assist in the delivery of training, using a range of appropriate teaching methods to ensure individual objectives are met during the delivery of the training.

You will deliver personal safety and conflict management programmes as well as delivering physical and First Aid training as directed by the College of Policing.

In addition, Officer Safety Trainers are also responsible for monitoring and assessing individual students, therefore you will be required to give feedback on their progress.

This type of role is pivotal to ensuring our police officers are fully trained to protect themselves in critical situations. Therefore, we are looking for someone who will positively promote the value of training within the organisation and is able to implement comprehensive programmes.

The successful candidate will receive in house training to become a ‘Personal Safety’ instructor and First Aid Instructor and will receive other types of qualification (i.e. Adult Learning, Assessor and Gym Instructor) through qualified governing bodies.


What is Required?

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and police procedures is preferred.
  • A Level 4 or below training qualification or willing to work towards a Level 4 or above training qualification.
  • Qualified as an A1 assessor or be willing to work towards an assessor qualification.
  • Must have relevant experience of delivering the training cycle in an adult learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible to work within a small team (often required to cover one another at short notice).
  • Flexible with working hours (post is Monday to Friday 8am-4pm however there is occasional weekend working and flexibility around shift times).
