The Community Engagement Co-ordinator within the Community Safety Unit is a pivotal role within Humberside Police which involves developing existing events initiatives and working with partner agencies to come up with new opportunities.  Your main responsibility will be the Lifestyle Project and Safer Schools Partnership.

Lifestyle is our flagship Youth Engagement Project which we are proud to have run for over 30 years.  Young people aged between 10 to 18 years are challenged to form a team and decide on a community project to help others in the community.  Promoted in over 400 schools by Neighbourhood Policing Teams, it successfully attracts thousands of young people every year.  It is expected that you will be able to coordinate large scale projects including the sourcing of sponsorship from corporate companies.  You will need experience of building relationships and be an excellent communicator to be able to deal with corporate companies and young people from seldom heard communities and challenging backgrounds.

The Safer Schools Partnership involves working with schools, colleges, and other partners within our region with the overall purpose of ensuring young people, staff, parents, and visitors to the school have a safe environment in which to study, work, and visit. The partnership provides a fantastic opportunity to build more positive relationships between young people, police and partners and encourages them to develop respect for themselves and their community.  This involves ensuring contracts are signed in every school each year and working with the Office of the Police Crime Commissioner, schools, and other partner agencies to develop and build products that are delivered in schools.

The successful candidate will report to the Community Safety Sergeant and will be able to draw upon support from the wider Community Safety Team during the busiest periods of the projects.  It is expected that you would be able to work as part of a team supporting others Community Engagement Co-ordinators with their projects during their busiest periods.

An understanding of engagement with seldom heard communities and young people is essential to the role, the ability to manage change, as is the ability to manage budgets and plan to ensure projects are successful and engage with our most deprived areas of the communities.  It is also desirable that you have experience of working in an education setting or youth work.
