Details of role:

We are a regional procurement hub, led by South Yorkshire Police, supporting the four Police Forces and Police and Crime Commissioners in the Yorkshire and the Humber region and have an office base within each of those four Force areas.

We are looking to expand our team and are offering an exciting opportunity for suitably experienced professionals to join us in the role of Category Manager to make a significant contribution to the delivery of our regional strategy.

Role Purpose:

We are looking for individuals who have achieved the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Level 6 Graduate Diploma (see Person Specification for other essential and desirable criteria).

The successful candidates will be established, experienced professionals with an understanding of public sector procurement with the ability to manage collaborative procurement exercises, work with a wide stakeholder group and deliver savings and other efficiencies through a variety of commercial activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Negotiate and influence senior collective forums (internal and external) to achieve the benefits of collaborative procurement.

Develop and deliver procurement savings plans for specific categories in collaboration with the customer ensuring quantifiable cashable efficiencies are identified, prioritised, delivered and reported.

Manage contract reviews for key business critical contracts managed inside and outside of the central procurement function, ensuring contract performance is managed in line with KPI’s and customer requirements are met or exceeded.

Lead and manage complex and strategic force, regional and national collaborative procurement projects to ensure their effective delivery in line with customer requirements and timescales.

Skills and experience:

  • Relevant experience of managing all aspects of category management and delivery of quantifiable procurement efficiencies
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Diploma & full corporate membership (MCIPS), Level 6 Graduate Diploma or equivalent
  • Good interpretation of Procurement legislation

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years has been identified for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
