West Yorkshire Police, as the lead Force for the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Scientific Support Services, is looking to recruit a number of Senior Crime Scene Investigators. We currently have immediate vacancies at Bradford, York, Sheffield and Brigg. These roles will attract weekend enhancement and either 14% or 20% shift allowance depending on the shift pattern.

We will also create a succession list for any future vacancies that arise within the next 6 months at Hull, Leeds, Ossett, Doncaster, Thirsk, Scarborough, Harrogate, Bradford, York, Sheffield and Brigg.

The main purpose of your role is to provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective crime scene examination service to police investigations by attending crime scenes and other incidents of any type.

These opportunities would suit candidates with a Science based degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant operational environment.

You must be able to attend and examine crime scenes as defined by the CSI National Occupational Standards and will have an understanding of Health and Safety issues and legislation relevant to crime scene examination and attendance.

We are looking for candidates with knowledge of the practical techniques used to examine serious and major crime scenes, together with an understanding of the investigative response to such incidents. You must also have the ability to deal with the effects of crime, this can range from dealing appropriately with distressed victims through to the impact on individuals of scenes of extreme violence.

The Successful candidates will come with good communication skills, an aptitude for working in a diverse community and the ability to use computer packages including casework management systems, crime systems, Excel and Word.

In addition, you will have a flexible approach to working cross-border to ensure a full regional crime scene investigation service and the ability to contribute to the designated shift pattern covering a 24 hour period 7 days per week. You will also hold a full current UK/European driving licence and have the ability to complete a recognised manual handling course.

Due to the nature of the role, you must provide Biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police Elimination Databases for routine speculative searching purposes.
