Please note, you do not have to be a Detective (PIP accredited) to apply for this post and we also welcome applications from Officers who are not an accredited Detective.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a unique team, supporting the work of Counter Terrorism Policing within the Dedicated Source Unit (DSU). The roles are based within the North East region covering Durham, Cleveland and Northumbria.

This will be a posting for West Yorkshire Police Officers and a regional transfer or secondment opportunity for Officers from the Regional Forces. Applicants from the Regional Forces will require permission from their current Force in order to be eligible to apply for this opportunity, as per their Home Force policy.

As a member of the DSU you will be responsible for the recruitment, maintenance and development of covert sources, either authorised by West Yorkshire Police or the Security Service while ensuring compliance with RIPA, the ACPO Manual on the Management of CHIS, Home Office CHIS Revised Codes of Practice (2018) and Force Policy.

As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to successfully complete a Security Service pre-selection assessment. You will need to evidence your ability to complete the assessment prior to appointment in role. It is also essential that you have the ability to pass the H1 Handler course (4 weeks residential), FAHC(P) (5 week residential), CHIS in Prison Course (CHiP), as well as successfully attain developed vetting.

You must have a basic knowledge of RIPA, ECHR, Data Protection legislation and NPCC/ACPO guidance regarding the Recording and Dissemination of Intelligence Material. You should be able to work out of Force area for extended periods of time, dependent on operational requirements and training, as well as being able to provide regular on call and weekend cover.
