Open to PC/DC’s who are not currently UC officers (this is not a route available for UCF/UCA officers wishing to move to online work).

 

A Nationally Accredited operative who is deployed online and undercover to identify and collect evidence around those offenders with a sexual interest in children in order to safeguard these vulnerable members of society and enable successful prosecution of offenders.

 

Consideration must be given by applicants that the role will invariably involve exposure to indecent images of children and other distressing material but will have the benefit of frequent psychological support and assessments.

 

The Post holder will be a skilled communicator who is able to adapt and change their style to match each online conversation in order to gather evidence and safeguard victims online.

 

Using expertise, familiarity and knowledge of social media and the worldwide web conduct undercover on-line investigations in line with authorized, tasked activity and in compliance with relevant legislation, to identify potential offenders and safeguard victims.  To have an understanding of relevant legislation in RIPA, Police Act, Human Rights etc.  Although not a technical role, basic IT skills are required as well as a willingness to learn to use the latest tools and software, techniques and technical developments which can be utilized to exploit the online environment, and thus deliver maximized potential to the regions investigative capability.

 

Maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality around the deployment and protection of covert Policing Tactics to ensure they remain confidential.  To ensure collection, retention and /or disclosure of data/information are complaint with current and applicable legislation.

 

Contribute to tactical plans under the direction and management of Cover Officers, COM-UC and Operational Leads to ensure all options, issues and risks have been considered for the action.  Using experience and knowledge risk-assess real time operational situations and make dynamic decisions based on that assessment, so that all risks and issues around these activities are managed, escalated if required and reported in accordance with appropriate policy, so mitigation plans can be put in place to minimize their impact.  The post holder will be expected to be responsible for, and be confident in, presenting evidence in court to support the successful prosecution of offenders.
