ROLE - ARV Officer (Armed Response Vehicle Officer)

Like every police force, Humberside Police is a busy place. We serve communities across four counties and our 999 and 101 call centres deal with almost half a million calls a year. Our officers and staff are in every part of the community, responding to the public’s needs, protecting vulnerable people and investigating crime. From low-level anti-social disorder to serious crime – and everything in between, we are often the service of first and last resort for the public.

 

We are seeking self-motivated, driven individuals that are wanting to be in a position to support the force against any threat that affects the people we serve.

 

Our Armed Response Officers are deployed daily to increase the feelings of confidence and the security of our public and to protect them against any threat that should occur within our area and beyond.

 

There is an extensive training programme to become an ARV officer and this training and investment is continued throughout the duration of the role.

 

The recruitment process for this post will be as follows:

 

  1. 1.     The initial stage of the application is an expression of interest where in 300 words you will outline your skills and abilities that, you feel, make you suitable for a role as an Armed Response Officer.
  2. 2.     Fitness test – Conducted at the Firearms Training Facility Layerthorpe, Hull. The standard to be achieved is 9.4. (Contact time slots of approximately 1 hour will be allocated on the 14th & 15th May).
  3. 3.     Training Exercise - NDM Assessments. Conducted at the Firearms Training Facility Layerthorpe, Hull. A date and contact time slot of approximately 1.5 hours will be allocated following the fitness test assessment.
  4. 4.     Range Shooting Exercise - a date and contact time slot of 4 hours will be allocated following the fitness test & NDM assessments.  
  5. 5.     Firearms Application Booklet will be issued to any officer who achieves the 9.4 fitness test for completion.    

 

If successful you will be appointed on to one of the following course dates or placed onto the succession planning list for future course dates if the below are filled.

 

  • 23rd July -16th October 2018
  • 29th Oct- 2nd Jan 2019
  • 11th Feb -7th May 2019

 

 

Each course is a 13 week course that requires attendance at training for the full 13 weeks.

 

Please submit your expression of interest to Inspector Gary Jackson Gary.Jackson@humberside.pnn.police.uk along with the attached Line Manager's approval form by noon on the 25th April 2018 and the timings of the other stages are listed above.

 

Expressions of Interest will only be accepted from officers that have completed 2 years’ service as of 25th April 2018 and have passed their probationary period.

 

PLEASE NOTE: You must have your line manager’s approval to apply for this post. The attached Internal Reference Form will need to be completed, endorsed and attached to your application before submission.  Your application will not be considered for shortlisting for interview if you have not submitted the Internal Reference Form.

We are running a series of 1 hour sessions to inform interested officers of what it means to be an Armed Response Officer these are planned to take place at the following Communities Patrol briefing rooms as below:

 

These sessions are open to any officer including student’s officers who are interested in the role now and for succession planning.

 

 

Friday 13th April Clough Road Police Station 07:00 hours

 

Tuesday 17th April Beverley Police Station 15:00 hours
