West Yorkshire Police as the lead Force for the Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Scientific Support Services (RSSS) are looking to recruit a job share Forensic Examiner to be based at Calder Park, Wakefield.

In this role you will conduct ISO17025 accredited laboratory based recovery of DNA, blood and trace evidence along with DNA screening on a range of exhibit types in accordance with validated techniques and set procedures. We need you to locate, record and recover forensic material in line with investigative requirements, ensuring integrity and continuity of items by correct handling, storage and documentation.

Eligible candidates will come with experience gained in a DNA-clean laboratory environment or a science/forensic based qualification, as well as an understanding of exhibit integrity and continuity, and its importance to the Criminal Justice system.

Furthermore, we are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and a working knowledge of computerised databases. Due to the nature of the role, you must provide Biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police Elimination Databases for routine speculative searching purposes.

In addition, you will be required to complete a ‘Manual Handling’ course, undertake visual checking of forensic exhibits and associated documentation and have a flexible approach to working hours to ensure service delivery is maintained. The department is fast paced, working to demanding deadlines so applicants will need to demonstrate a high level of organisational skills.

As this is a progression scheme candidates who meet the essential criteria of the advanced level Role Profile may be eligible to start further along the progression scheme.
