An exciting opportunity has arisen, for a dedicated Detective Constable to join the Professional Standards Department.  It is a role that is both diverse and challenging and will require a robust and methodical approach to investigations upholding the professional and ethical standards of the force.

The successful candidates will investigate matters referred to the Professional Standards Department, as directed by the Senior Investigating Officer, including public complaints, internal discipline enquiries and criminal allegations.

The Role

You will assist contact complainants, and provide advice on the discipline and complaints procedure and establish the exact nature of a complaint.

In cases of formal investigation, you will gather all evidence, including witness, physical and forensic evidence, ensuring that exhibits are correctly packaged and that continuity is maintained.

The successful applicant will:

  • Possess an awareness of the relevant conducts and complaints notes of guidance, issued by the Home Office, the Police and Criminal Investigation Act 1984 and the Police Reform Act 2002, and other relevant regulations.
  • Have criminal interview experience and be willing to train to Tier 2 level in investigative interviewing. 
  • Be trained to Tier 2 investigative interviewing or has extensive criminal interview experience.
  • Have attended and qualified the ICIDP, Detectives Initial course or equivalent.
