West Yorkshire Police are looking to recruit a Technical Officer within the TSU to service both West Yorkshire and Regional Crime/Odyssey with technical support within the Yorkshire area.

As part of a team you will provide specialist support and technical assistance with covert and overt surveillance operations and assist in the detection and prevention of serious crime and terrorism. This role predominantly covers the higher level of capabilities supplied to specialist departments, SOCU/ROCU/HMET/ACU.

We are offering this opportunity to candidates with knowledge of electrical and electronic principles, as well as expertise of common operating systems and applications.

You will hold a degree, HND, HNC or equivalent qualification in a technical discipline and/or substantial experience in an audio/visual or telecommunications role. You will be competent in the use of computerised systems and will be able to work effectively on your own initiative, working well under pressure in stressful and potentially dangerous circumstances.

In addition, you must hold a full current UK/European driving licence with access to your own vehicle for business use. Technical Officers are required to work unsociable hours on occasions often at short notice and must be able to carry a considerable amount of heavy equipment over considerable distances. You will also undertake covert urban and rural deployment of equipment.

The team of six Technical Officers are required to cover 24 hour call out for crime in action requests of which two are on call at any one time, this attracts standby allowance and overtime. The successful candidate will be subject to enhanced personal and vetting checks prior to appointment.
