Applications are invited from Constables for 2 vacancies for the post of Forensic Collision Investigator and the formation of a succession plan. Constables must have completed their probationary period at the closing date of this advert. 

 

The succession list is for each of the 3 bases (Wakefield/Humberside/North Yorkshire) due to forecasted vacancies

 

We currently have 2 vacancies for Humberside based at Melton Police Station. This is an excellent opportunity for officers to provide a YatH-wide professional and impartial forensic collision investigation and vehicle examination service surrounding death and serious injury.

 

We are looking for officers with an HNC in Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent or experience in motor mechanics or forensics and a good working knowledge of the construction and function of all types of vehicles, light and heavy, and the law relating to such vehicles.

 

You must be able to pass the Police Forensic Collision Investigation examination and subsequent essential courses and be conversant with computer operating systems together with the ability to use computer software relating to collision investigation. You will also need to have emotional resilience and ability to deal with distressing situations. Due to the nature of the role, you must provide Biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA) for inclusion on the respective Police Elimination Databases for routine speculative searching purposes.

 

In addition, you will hold a current full UK/European driving licence, with an ability to pass the HGV Class 1 driving licence, the motorcycle course and Police advanced driving.  Successful candidates will be expected to take part in an ‘On call’ function or work full 24/7 shifts.


Training for this role will take place mainly in Wakefield but also at other establishments within the UK. This will be a posting for West Yorkshire Police officers and a secondment to the Regional Forces.

 

Candidates must be able to complete an advances mathematics exam and competency / mechanical based interview.
