We recognise that the Regional Intelligence Department needs to be representative of the diverse communities of the West Midlands, and will offer support throughout the process to our BME and female colleagues with an aspiration to showcase CMPG Intelligence as a great place to work and prosper.

Central Motorway Police Group

The Central Motorway Police Group’s vision is “Working in Partnership to Create Safe and Secure Roads”

The Central Motorway Police Group and West Midlands Force Traffic Unit provide dedicated and specialist proactive and reactive roads policing above and beyond local policing capability.  The collaboration focuses on strategic harm reduction delivered through intelligence led enforcement, education and by being a proactive and visible deterrent.

The operational independence extended to CMPG means the group works collaboratively with each member force, (West Mercia, Staffordshire and West Midlands) via existing tactical tasking and co-ordination processes, to disrupt and control the threat, risk and harm generated by criminal activity in each force area and in doing so supports individual force resources and priorities.  Crucially however, by working closely with the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), CMPG works regionally, across force borders, helping to identify and disrupt regional, national and sometimes international criminal activity that brings significant threat, risk and harm to the communities of all three forces.

Roads safety is delivered by CMPG and WMRPU using intelligence led preventative patrols focused on policing the four recognised contributors to death and serious injury on the roads; speeding, drink / drug  driving, distraction e.g. use of mobile telephones and seat belt compliance.  The group supports National and European roads safety campaigns and aims to educate and instill compliance with roads safety legislation as well as enforce it. The significance of disruption caused to the strategic road network following serious incidents is never under-estimated and continuous improvement to working practices and partnerships underpins the delivery of roads safety policing.

Role Purpose

The RTI officer is expected to be flexible, although works a 12 hour shift pattern, based at the Regional Control Centre based in Quinton.  They work under their own supervision for large periods, working both proactively and reactively on real time incidents ensuring intelligence is fed within the Police service and amongst our partner agencies.

The RTI officer develops information and intelligence from Police systems creating and progressing intelligence products.  These products perform a pivotal role in CMPG’s ability to catch and convict offenders, gather intelligence and engage in disruption tactics amongst the criminal fraternity.
