ROLE – ARVO (Armed Response Vehicle Officer)

Like every police force, Humberside Police is a busy place. We serve communities across four counties and our 999 and 101 call centres deal with almost half a million calls a year. Our officers and staff are in every part of the community, responding to the public’s needs, protecting vulnerable people and investigating crime. From low-level anti-social disorder to serious crime – and everything in between, we are often the service of first and last resort for the public.

We are seeking self-motivated, driven individuals that are wanting to be in a position to support the force against any threat that affects the people we serve.

Our Armed Response Officers are deployed daily to increase the feelings of confidence and the security of our public and to protect them against any threat that should occur within our area and beyond.

There is an extensive training programme to become an ARV officer and this training and investment is continued throughout the duration of the role.

The recruitment process for this post will be as follows:

  • Application document (Word document headed with officer details in the following format PC/DC, collar number, forename then surname) – Expression of interest in no more than 300 words outlining the skills and abilities that you feel make you suitable for a role as an Armed Response Officer.
  • Email from 1st line manager with initial support to be considered for the selection process.

The 300 word document and supporting 1st Line manger email are to be forwarded together to Insp Gary JACKSON Gary.jackson@humberside.pnn.police.uk included within this email is your commencement date of service. You also need to state if you are CBRN trained currently – this is not a requirement to be accepted for the process.

If successful at the above stage a regional selection process is then conducted – this may take place within the Humberside area and or this may be conducted at a location to be identified at a regional facility. This will be a full day and/or some elements may be conducted separately- overnight accommodation would not be required

The following will take place during the selection process;-  

  • Fitness test. Standard to be achieved 9.4 bleep test.
  • Training exercise - NDM Assessments.
  • Range Shooting.
  • Firearms Application Booklet – will be issued at a set point in the above process.      

All candidates will be updated. If successful you will be placed on the succession planning list. And updated at the appropriate time. Allocation onto a specific Initial Firearms Courses (IFC) will be communicated to all relevant staff.

For information we currently have the following (IFC’s) planned for the 2019-2020 period with no candidates allocated at this time - there may be more dates added.

  • IFC 2 15th July - 9th October 2019
  • IFC 3 30th September - 24th December 2019
  • IFC 4 28th October - 24th January 2020
  • IFC 5 6th January 2020 - 31st March 2020

Each course is a 13 week course that requires attendance for the full 13 weeks.

Please do not change any plans to accommodate any of the above dates however please be mindful of them and identify any dates that you would not be suitable that are already know to you and identify them in your initial email to Insp JACKSON.

Application forms will only be accepted from officers that have completed 2 years’ service as of 1st May 2019. Further expressions of interest will be advertised again during 2019.
