Role: Judicial Prosecution & File Preparation Officer

Salary: £21,507- £24,057

Contract & Hours:     Permanent- 18.5 hours per week and a Fixed Term Contract (Maternity Cover approximately until Feb 2021)- 18.5 hours per week

Job Description:

This job involves prosecution of specified proceedings within the Magistrates Court. Checking validity of all documents produced, dealing with any legal arguments, resulting case files, including driving disqualifications, arranging trials and adjournment dates and ensuring costs are applied for on behalf of South Yorkshire Police.

Role Purpose:

Successful applicant will be responsible for the efficient management of file preparation within Criminal Justice Unit structure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and make consistent prosecution decisions on specified proceedings cases, where necessary provide advance disclosure to relevant criminal justice agencies.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to operational officers and police staff on the conduct of the investigation and file content, ensuring file timeliness and quality of content.
  • Preparation of specified offence files, either way, indictable only and Allocated case files for Crown and Magistrates Courts in accordance with the manual of guidance and National File standards.

Skills and experience:

  • Show evidence of effective quality control in relation to work output.
  • Ability to identify mistakes and errors, and summarise information.
  • Experience in Criminal Justice administration and courts procedures and protocols.
  • Knowledge of Manual of Guidance, Disclosure and Points to prove.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
