Job Description:

We are looking to recruit a Financial Investigator to join the Specialist Crime Services Department, in this role you will be responsible for managing financial investigations and enquiries. Supporting district staff with financial enquiries in support of criminal investigations, missing or wanted persons. Preparing and presenting applications for POCA hearings at court.

Role Purpose:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing the link between operational police officers and financial institutions, with the aim of recovering assets and exploiting opportunities for asset recovery across the whole spectrum of criminality from those convicted of criminal activity and managing the forfeiture process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting police officers and investigating officers with financial enquiries in support of investigations.
  • Supporting districts with proactive financial enquiries around missing or wanted persons.
  • Preparing court papers to support POCA cash detention applications and subsequent forfeiture order applications.
  • Collating, Reviewing, Developing and using financial intelligence that may have been obtained through a variety of sources.
  • Attending court to present evidence both in relation to civil proceedings in relation to POCA or in support of criminal hearings.
  • Maintaining an ongoing caseload around financial investigations.  

Skills and experience:

  • Prepared to undertake the National Crime Agency (NCA) Financial investigator training with Part 5 and 8 Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) powers
  • Prepared to gain accreditation as a Financial Investigator by compiling and submitting a portfolio of evidence to the National Crime Agency (NCA)
  • Experience of working with computerised systems, including Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and the Internet

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
