Role Purpose:

To support South Yorkshire Police in disrupting serious and complex organised criminality.  To support Senior ECU management in the overall management of Financial Investigation across the Force.  Ensuring the provision of an effect and comprehensive service in all aspects of the Proceeds of Crime.

Responsible for the daily operation of ARU, including management of casework, and management of a teams of Financial Investigators based locally and across the Force.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing investigative operational, performance and productivity within the Asset Recovery Unit. (ARU)
  • Lead the delivery of the ARU provision to make the most effect and efficient use of resources to meet demands and optimise service delivery.
  • Proactively manage the performance, attendance and wellbeing of ARU staff against the required standards, to ensure that they are dealt with and supported in accordance with the correct policies and procedures. Including direct line management of locally based and district wide Financial Investigators.
  • Develop complex case specific strategies in partnership with investigation teams, senior officers and other key investigative stakeholders, including SOC and fortify.
  • Management and allocation of the Department’s operational casework, including ongoing monitoring and quality assurance in accordance with POCA codes and accreditations.
  • Liaising with external bodies to coordinate casework that requires support in relation to all aspects of POCA, such as Crown Prosecution Service, Other Law Enforcement bodies and public agencies.
  • Maintaining an excellent awareness of current trends and offending typologies in relation to the Proceeds of Crime and Asset Recovery, to identify key areas of investigation, in order to maximise asset recovery and investigative opportunities.
  • Support ARU management to contribute to the tactical and strategic of Asset Recovery across the Force, Supporting ARU management in strategic direction in relation to relevant developments in Financial Investigations, making recommendations that will lead to continuous improvement in the quality of investigations, Force policies and procedures.
  • Develop, compile, assess and report information in relation to the performance and productivity of all elements of Asset Recovery and ensure appropriate progress is made against previously agreed standards.
  • Support ARU management to identify and promote best practice across the Force, Region and nationally, ensuring SYP are represented and at the forefront of future developments to processes, systems and technology in respect of the Proceeds of Crime.
  • Give presentations and briefings where require, in support of investigations, including providing practical advice and guidance to officers on matters relating to Asset Recovery Investigation’s.
  • Conduct highly complex, bespoke and specialist investigations using all aspects of the POCA accreditation under Parts 2, 5 and 8 of POCA. Ensuring that statements are written to the relevant standard and information is presented at court in a clear and comprehensible manner in both the Magistrates and Crown Courts.
  • Act as a Senior Authorising officer as defined under POCA to authorise Production Orders, forfeiture of orders obtained under Part 5 of the Act without a court order.
  • Deputise for the Head of ARU when required and as directed.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
