Role Purpose:

Coordinate collaborative working and activities across the force with Information Asset Owners to ensure data risk is identified, understood, communicated and managed. Provide assurance to the Senior Information Risk Owner through the Data Accountability and Assurance Framework

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively within the organisation to identify, understand and manage data risk.
  • Implement the Data Accountability and Assurance Framework to support data risk management across the organisation.
  • Provide the Secretariat function to the Data Accountability and Assurance Framework and take a leading role in the Strategic and Tactical Data Boards.
  • Directly support and advise Information Asset Owners and Information Asset Assistants in their duties by managing assurance activities to demonstrate accountability for their data assets.
  • Develop appropriate tools, dashboards, health-checks, documentation, and packages to support Information Asset Owners and the Data Boards (strategic and tactical), including the Baseline Assurance Assessment.
  • Identify, coordinate, and manage the Information Risk Register, ensuring relevant subject matter experts are involved and action managers complete actions in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with and support other managers within the Data Office to clearly define information risk, risk score and allocate a lead subject matter expert, working with them closely to assist the IAO in mitigating actions, ensuring IAOs are fully supported in their role.
  • Maintain and update the Information Asset Register.
  • Track performance of data risk management activity and produce summary reports.
  • Manage the auditing function for the Data Office and support the implementation of recommendations across the organisation.
  • Manage the data risk analysis workstream within the Data Office to maintain a holistic view of data risks and the requirements of the business.
  • Manage administrative support within the Data Office.
  • Collaborate with Information Asset Owners to maintain the force’s risk records.
  • Other tasks commensurate with the role as requested by Head of Data Assurance.
  • Reporting to the Head of Data Assurance.
  • Responsible for 1x Data Risk Analyst Band D, 2x Data Auditors Band C, and 1x Data Risk and Assurance Assistant Band B.

Skills and experience:

  • Educated to a degree or equivalent relevant and extensive senior experience and competencies
  • Specialist relevant Risk Management/Information Governance qualification, or 3 years equivalent experience in a similar organisation working in a relevant role
  • Management qualification, or at least 2 years relevant recent experience in managing, leading and motivating staff
  • Proven experience of risk management methodology application
  • Experience of writing detailed reports
  • Experience of the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Able to travel within and outside the force area, as required by the role

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity.  A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
