Details of the role:

The role will require the successful applicant to analyse business needs and translate these into IS requirements and project manage their implementation and acceptance into service.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage from conception to implementation a number of large-scale projects at any one time, as well as providing support to the Team Leader and other members of the Projects and Programmes Team.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of IS Projects. Working closely with IS staff and project team members, external suppliers and relevant IS Lead Officers to ensure that projects are implemented on time and within budget constraints, and too agreed quality standards.

It is anticipated that the individual taking up this post will have a good understanding of IS systems and procedures, and a good overall knowledge and understanding of Information Technology, and substantial Project Management experience in an IT related environment.

Role Purpose:

The post holder will work as part of a Team to analyse, plan and manage the implementation of Information Technology projects across SYP and HP in line with IS Strategies and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The post holder will assist the Team Leader in assessing the impact of new requests of work for both the current business processes and existing IT systems, and new systems and or services that require IS implementations.
  • The post holder will produce well-structured high quality project documentation to Prince II standards, providing briefing paperwork and reports such as risk and issues logs, action plans and detailed project plans for the respective Project Boards, senior management and other parties as appropriate.
  • Project documentation containing a technical element to be written and presented in such a way as to make the information understandable to the target audience, enabling them to make informed decisions based on that information.
  • The post holder will effectively manage the IS resourcing, technical planning, procurement and implementation of IT aspects of force development projects from initial conception and planning to implementation and subsequent monitoring. Ensuring the transition into service of new systems and or services is managed and approved.
  • Ensures that agreed quality standards, budgets and timescales are adhered to and best practice project management principles and techniques are adopted throughout the project lifecycle.
  • The post holder will undertake post Project Implementation Reviews in conjunction with both the user and technical staff to assess if the anticipated business benefits are being realised.
  • The post holder will also be expected to contribute in the decision making process and make recommendations to the IS Management Team.

Skills and experience:

  • ITIL Foundation
  • Substantial experience of project planning and methodologies - Prince 2
  • Substantial experience of delivering IS Projects and overseeing a varied work portfolio
  • High level of technical understanding and ability to work alongside technical team members
