Details of the role:

A Senior Engineer (Database) is required for South Yorkshire & Humberside Police Information Services Data Services, working as part of a dynamic agile team across South Yorkshire & Humberside, providing SQL Server & Oracle estate implementation and DBA support for core projects and programmes, frontline and back office systems.

-              Shared business intelligence & data warehouse (ERP, Demand, Performance & KPI, Forecasting & Profiling, MI, QA, Intel)

-              Extensive Oracle & SQL Server estate

-              ERP (HR, Payroll, Finance, Procurement, Duties & Training)

-              Data application and integration

Reporting to the Data Services Manager, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to experience and obtain a range of high-value industry skills, whilst developing technical and business strengths towards personal and force goals.

A senior member of the team, the role enables the successful candidate to assist with team mentoring and coaching, deputising for Data Service Manager.

Role Purpose:

Work as part of a Team to analyse, plan and manage the implementation of Information Technology aspects across South Yorkshire Police and Humberside Police in line with Information Services Strategies and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Information Systems Team/Specialism Leader (Database) in the administration of the ORACLE and SQL Server Database estate, ensuring back-up, DR and Business Continuity procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that testing is kept up to date across multiple geographic locations, monitoring all related systems and applications for the provision of proactive support, performance and the provision of KPI’s with respect to availability.
  • As directed by the Information Systems Team/Specialism Leader (Database), liaise with specialist areas with regard to future database requirements and equipment, formulate proposals to meet their needs, monitor and control requests for new work ensuring that appropriate quality and standards are maintained and work is completed in a timely fashion.

Skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of enterprise ORACLE and SQL Server database management best practices.
  • SQL, PLSQL or TSQL knowledge and experience.
  • Experience of Agile delivery methodology for successful project implementations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of database modelling, migration, reporting and data warehouse techniques.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
