The successful candidate will lead the DVPO Team, managing workloads and maintaining effective performance. The post will also be responsible for preparing and presenting domestic violence protection orders in magistrates courts, including presenting initial applications, dealing with contested hearings and preparing and prosecuting breach hearings ensuring appropriate case progression.

The successful candidate will be required to attend Magistrates Court in Barnsley, Doncaster & Sheffield and there will be a requirement to be on call to cover breach hearings on Saturday mornings and bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of the DVPO team, including workloads, performance and welfare.
  • To attend Magistrates Courts to present cases in both contested and uncontested cases, deal with legal argument, cross examine witnesses and liaise with attendees at court to discuss hearing issues
  • To advise and support operational officers on domestic violence protection notices and orders by maintaining up to date knowledge of legislation
  • Deal with correspondence from the public, solicitors and partner agencies ensuring that necessary action is initiated
  • To provide quality assurance to ensure the contents of all files are adequate and correct in content and detail
  • To liaise with other agencies involved in safeguarding in order to promote a close working relationship to support victims of domestic abuse

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of supervising a team and delivering team objectives
  • Have excellent problem solving, communication and decision skills
  • Be computer literate
  • Hold a full manual driving licence
  • Must be prepared to travel to other locations within South Yorkshire
  • Able to undertake the appropriate legal training

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
