It is an exciting time to join South Yorkshire Police.  Recognising the key part intelligence will play in the forces journey to outstanding, a significant increase in investment has been committed to our analytical function.  This has created a number of exciting new roles, which directly support operational performance across a diverse range of crime types, in an expanding department with excellent career development opportunities.

Role Purpose:

We are looking for qualified and experienced Intelligence Analysts to join the expanding team.  Utilising a wide range of analytical techniques, you will be customer focussed, responding to proactive and reactive enquiries; informing force strategies; identifying and interpreting trends in data for a wide variety of customers. Intelligence analysts make a direct contribution in the reduction of and detection of crime.

This is achieved through researching, analysing and presenting data from a diverse range of sources in accordance with Force priorities to enable informed decision-making.

An experienced analyst, you will have completed the National Intelligence Analysis Tactical Training (NIAT analyst foundation course) or equivalent.  You will have the ability to prepare and present reports from complex data and utilise technology to enable data manipulation, formulae, charts and manage database functions. We are seeking intelligence analysts in tactical, strategic and operational roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver intelligence products in support of the relevant unit/district in accordance with the nine standard analytical techniques outlined in NIM and the relevant tasking and co-ordinating processes
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external customers.
  • To negotiate, discuss and agree terms of reference and strategies for intelligence analysis products with clients including SIOs, tasking chairs and other stakeholders.
  • Development of effective procedures for delivering analytical products at all levels of Tasking and Co-ordinating.
  • Obtain information from a wide variety of sources, exploiting all appropriate systems and products, including relevant databases and analytical software tools., formulating wide-ranging inferences and conclusions.
  • To utilise inference development, undertake analysis and develop recommendations as and when required.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a manual of best practice for delivery of intelligence analysis and contribute to policy formulation.
  • Present reports and findings to senior personnel, to ensure they are kept updated on areas of risk.
  • To provide a quality assurance role, including peer review, in relation to analytical products and evidence.
  • To ensure guidance and evidence produced enables officers to direct investigations in light of the information obtained.
  • Identify intelligence gaps, formulate and suggest intelligence requirements, assist with the formulation of intelligence collection plans
  • Prepare and present evidence in court or for other hearings
  • Commit to develop personal knowledge and skills in the field of intelligence analysis by exploiting available system and knowledge products
  • Mentor and help develop other intelligence analysts and researchers as appropriate as part of team.
  • Communication of complex analytical information to districts/departments at a strategic level.
  • Contribute to district/department performance through understanding of the strategic direction of that district/department..
  • IT proficient; able to use word processing, spreadsheets and other packages which enable data manipulation, formulae, charts and functions

Skills and experience:

  • Proficient in using databases
  • Previous experience in intelligence/information collection and analysis
  • Ability to prepare and present reports from complex data
  • Managing issues of a sensitive and confidential nature

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
