It is an exciting time to join South Yorkshire Police.  Recognising the key part intelligence will play in the forces journey to outstanding, a significant increase in investment has been committed to our analytical function.  This has created a number of exciting new roles, which directly support operational performance across a diverse range of crime types, in an expanding department with excellent career development opportunities.

Role Purpose:

This is a new role with professional oversight of the analytical function.  Reporting directly the Director of Intelligence, you will provide strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders, and develop intelligence analysis to inform decision making to identify and mitigate against threat risk and harm. 

An experienced intelligence professional, you will also be a strong people manager, with the ability to develop and lead a high performing professional analytical function, embedding the College of Policing Intelligence Professionalization Programme (IPP).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct, shape, develop and co-ordinate the provision of the organisations analytical function to inform decision making at a strategic, tactical and operational level.
  • Lead on the delivery of analytical products at all levels of Tasking and Co-ordinating ensuring the broadest strategic context, including the delivery of the Strategic Intelligence Assessment and other statutory products.
  • Develop and Co-ordinate strategies for intelligence analysis, designing and shaping analytical documents and processes, contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation, whilst ensuring compliance with national standards and legislation.
  • To use a range of communication and influencing techniques and methods to successfully negotiate, prioritise and allocate intelligence analysis products to deliver effective outcomes whilst optimising resource and skills deployment.
  • Prepare and present reports and findings, to ensure senior managers, SCT, OPCC and other partners are updated on identified areas of threat, harm and risk and areas for improvement within the Force in relation to intelligence analysis.
  • Influence and contribute to the development of intelligence analysis through local and national consultations with key stakeholders, to develop analytical standards and ensure they are embedded in the organisational strategy.
  • To develop and maintain relationships with external law enforcement agencies and other key partners with regard to the development of information sharing and dissemination of analysis products.
  • Be a professional advocate for analysis by providing advice, direction, and expertise across the Force on all analytical matters in order to contribute to Force plans and the achievement of policing objectives.
  • To liaise with relevant parties in order to identify opportunities to improve analytical techniques and systems including relevant databases and analytical software tools.
  • Lead the analytical team, providing monitoring, coaching, guidance and support to maximise staff development, efficiency and morale, to deliver an effective intelligence service in line with organisational requirements.
  • Provide leadership and professional oversight of the analytical function for the Force, including lead for the Intelligence Professionalization Programme (IPP) or equivalent.
  • Innovative within intelligence and data analysis to drive latest techniques and embed best practice.
  • Commit to develop personal knowledge and skills in the field of intelligence analysis to ensure implementation of latest techniques and tactics, best practice, and information relevant to the role.
  • Perform such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.

Skills and experience:

  • Relevant qualification at degree level.
  • Commitment to working towards College of Policing Intelligence Professionalization Programme (IPP) Qualification (to be completed within required timeframe from appointment), and continue IPP compliance.
  • Experience of managing an analytical team at a senior level.
  • Significant experience of managing and developing staff.
  • Highly developed knowledge of intelligence analysis and quality assurance of analysis products.
  • Flexible to the needs of the service with the ability to travel within and outside of the Force area. May be required to work outside normal working hours.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills with experience of negotiating and influencing key stakeholders at a senior level.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
